https://jurnal.itkesmusidrap.ac.id/JIKP/article/view/2058

Background: The main issue of the family planning program in Indonesia is the high rate of unmet need, with South Sulawesi reaching 14.3% (above the national average of 8.5%). Objective: This study aimed to determine the disparity of unmet need family planning in South Sulawesi Province based on age, education, number of children, contraception history, and media exposure. Methods: A cross-sectional design involving 1,262 currently married/cohabiting fertile age women (WUS) aged 15-49 years from the PMA2020 round 1 data of 2015. Samples were chosen using stratified two-stage sampling. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square and Logistic Regression. Results: The unmet need rate in South Sulawesi was 22.5%. There was a significant unmet need disparity by education (p=0.002), number of children (p=0.018), and media exposure (p=0.000). No significant disparity was found for age (p=0.654) and history of contraception (p=0.877). Conclusion: Education, number of children, and media exposure are the distinguishing factors of unmet need, with media exposure being the most dominant influential factor (OR=1.624; 95% CI=1.176-2.243).

Key words: unmet need, family planning, education, number of children, media exposure
jumrani ramli
